Energy and concentration can be hard to come by on a regular basis, especially when life gets hectic - we hear you! Fear not, peppermint essential oil to the rescue - refresh and energize! As the second most popular essential oil in the United States, peppermint is often used to refresh home spaces, energize the body and cool the skin. Peppermint has been used for over 10,000 years, beginning in Greek mythology when the Queen of the Underworld turned a nymph named Menthe into a beneficial, aromatic plant - woah.
What does peppermint look like?
Peppermint essential oil is steam distilled from fresh peppermint leaves. The peppermint plant itself can grow up to three feet tall, and it has purple stems with pale-violet flowers - who would have thunk it? The aroma of peppermint is fresh, cool and minty. Once the oil is steam distilled from the plant, it has a clear or pale yellow color.
Where does it come from?
Peppermint Mentha piperita (yikes, that's a mouthful) is native to Washington, United States, where Aura Cacia Peppermint is sourced from, in the prominent Yakima Valley.
