How to maintain a regular self-care routine

Be proud of the life you've created for yourself and do things that make you feel GOOD!

Adopting this principle helped me become a better mom, wife, business owner and overall person. It might sound backwards at first because we tend to concentrate on others, but I can attest that self-care is an important first step for level-setting whatever comes next. Don’t underestimate how this can make a difference in your ability to help others.

Here are two things you can do to develop a self-care routine that works best for you:

1. Determine what is important to you

A self-care routine should be unique to you and no one else. What do you need to make yourself feel good about yourself? As a new mom, for example, I realized it was important to keep the routine I had before my son was born. (Read about my journey.) This included mediation, facial masks and more! 

2. Create a routine that can be done quickly

So many mothers neglect themselves when they don’t have to. Time is a major consideration so prioritize finding new routines that work with your lifestyle. For me, that meant finding new versions me-time moments. For example, I savor my daily ritual of calibrating a positive focus while taking care of my skin. It doesn’t take too long, either. I use eucalyptus-infused products in my shower while I focus on positive thoughts from my handy positive mind cards. I also use sweet almond oil for daily moisturizing. When my mind and body re-centered, I’m truly ready for the day.

Here are two intentions that help me feel good inside and out:

1. Holistic beauty is a must

This is no longer an option for me – it’s a must! I treat my beauty cabinet the same way I treat my kitchen. Products are selected with great care and diligence. When I found out I was pregnant, I made it my mission to transition to a clean beauty routine not only for myself but for my baby, as well. DIY concoctions were right in my budget and offered amazing results.

2. DIY is about growth

The affordability of creating DIY self-care products opened a whole new world for me. It may not be easy at first, but you get better at it. It is tremendously rewarding, too. I love how it allows me to set a great example for my son. It also allows me to tap into my creative side –I enjoy having that part of my personality in my beauty regime.

Conclusion

No matter what’s going on in your life, you should never neglect yourself. It might not be easy, at first – we’re used to getting rid of things we should do for ourselves when faced with a time crunch. Just commit to the idea. Making a lifestyle habit of putting yourself first will change all facets of your life for the better! Life is not a dress rehearsal – we have one chance to make it an amazing existence.

A very insightful and informative article gently reminding us that no matter how busy our lives get, we must not forget to take care of ourselves. A little time spent on ourselves each day will not only add value to our lives and make us feel happy, but will also have a positive impact on those around us!!

Thank you for the great reminder that we must take care of ourselves in order to take care of others in our lives. I’m trying to live a more focused, balanced, and purposeful life…and self-care is a great foundation for this!
