5 ways I create a relaxed vibe at home

As the seasons change, it’s important for me to hit the refresh button — and creating a relaxing sanctuary helps me feel more relaxed and refreshed.

When my home feels like a respite from the chaos of the outside world, I find that I can set out on my next big project with a clear mind and a relaxed vibe. Here are 5 easy ways to create your own relaxed vibe at home.

1. Color therapy

Refresh your home with color. You don’t even have to paint. Think about which colors make you feel more relaxed — once you have picked a color that lights you up or cools you down—swap out throw blankets, pillows and small area rugs to reflect those colors. Be it a calming room with a ‘bluhemian’ vibe, grounding neutrals or fresh greens, changing the colors in your home can transform the way you feel in your space.

2. Reorganization = meditation

Reorganize a shelf as a mindful meditation. Toss any home decor items, photos or old mementos that dredge up bad memories. Then clean off, organize and style your shelves. This will help you get rid of any negative feelings and highlight the objects that make you happy.

3. Separation (less!) anxiety

If you work from home like me, it can be hard to relax if your next day's to-do list is within your line of sight. Put up a pretty rattan room divider to separate work from play.

4. Relaxation within reach

Those hard-to-reach corners, dusty windows or cobwebby plants can often be the root of your home not feeling as relaxing as it could. I have a star lamp above my bed that always collects dust and spider webs, and if I’m lying down and look up, the scuzz inevitably disrupts my relaxation. Take a few minutes to wipe down these little troubled areas with your favorite all-purpose spray — and freshen yourself with a spritz or two! Try this all-purpose spray recipe.

5. Soak your cares away

Keep your bathroom (and kitchen) stocked with ingredients for quick and easy self-care recipes that make that impromptu 20-minute tub time accessible: yogurt, honey, sea salt, herbs and your favorite essential oils. Use teak trays or fun baskets beside the tub to keep it organized. Turn on calming music, turn down the lights and soak your cares away. Try adding 10 drops of Aura Cacia's Indulge Essential Oil Blend to your bath.
