How do you connect with nature?

I love spending time outside in my yard, playing with my pups, working on my garden or lounging on the deck reading a book. So many different cultures believe in the importance of spending time outside/in nature. The Japanese practice Shinrin-yogu, a.k.a. as forest bathing, which is simply walking in the forest and opening your senses to the environment for its calming, rejuvenating and restorative benefits. How do you connect with nature?

I like to watch nature, listen to nature, smell nature and feel nature. It makes my senses come alive, especially when I am alone, it’s like I can almost communicate with nature.

I need a daily dose of Nature Rx! Whether it’s soaking up some sunshine, or taking a walk in a park or public garden. Essential oils are my key “go to” for connecting with nature since they are the life force of plants. I can instantly create a woodsy and mossy environment, or a sparkling field of lavender or roses!

Hi Kelli! That’s exactly how I feel- I need my daily walking meditation in nature.  I just got back from leading a week-long field intensive for my students in the backwoods of Ohio, so I was able to practice forest bathing every single day.  Now that I’m back in the suburbs of Virginia, I’m using my essential oils to recreate that feeling of being immersed in the deep woods :)

I have aimed to be barefoot in the grass for atleast a few min each day even in the winter! Its amazing how much just those cpl min help fend off winter blues in the winter! I enjoy listening to the birds every morning and stretching before getting out of bed! So many ways nature plays a part in my life! I am grateful! Im coming more to terms with the fact that we too are nature and therefore the things we create are nature also and natural!

I love walking barefoot too! Whenever I am in my garden, or playing with my dogs in the yard, I am usually shoe-less :) I feel so much more connected to the earth when I can feel soil and grass beneath my feet.

I walk barefoot as much as possible throughout my day outside. This helps me stay grounded even when I’m at work in town.

I love that- it’s so true that we can carry nature with us wherever we go.  When I’m stuck inside working or am somewhere that doesn’t have many green growing things, I visualize myself in the middle of the woods and immediately feel so much more peaceful.

We'd love to hear your perspective.
