Noteworthy Journey: Task 10
Creativity: Nourish your body with a homemade nourishing skin oil

Making your own products at home can bring ease, joy and creativity into your daily life. As Charlynn Avery discovered in her Note, making her own skin care recipes gave her the ability to control what goes on her body. She also learned that DIY is a great way to save money without sacrificing quality.

I actually make a skin oil that uses Spearmint essential oil.  Not only does it smell great, but it invigorates at the same time. Will be using it after my shower this morning.

I do this all of the time!  I use oils or unscented lotions and add essential oils according to my needs: Lavender to soothe and calm, citrus oils to energize and uplift, and a myriad of others just to smell good!

I used coconut oil with Lavender. I live a good distance from the store that carries almond oil, but will try it once I get it. I have only made toothpowder before with peppermint oil, so I plan to study more.

I love sweet almond oil, but I did not have any, so I mixed lavender oil with jojoba oil. I rub it on the soles of my feet, very calming effect.

My skin doesn’t like almond oil but I used some shea butter and lavender oil… very relaxing.  Also did a facial massage with a spoon with the oil (found a youtube video a while back that shows how).  My skin says thank you :)

I bought the Creativity oil blend at Whole Foods a while back, I put it in my diffuser for a bit of mental clarity and calming.

I don’t use lavender essential oil as it is toxic for cats, so instead I set aside some time to do some drawing and painting :)

July 25, 2017 - 7:04pm

For this I added a drop of Peppermint and Rosemary oils. Then I diluted it as a mist and shared the ingredients and recipe with visiting family. They are so excited to use theirs and create their own skincare!

Lavender is an incredibly healing scent, and by applying this lavender body oil I felt grounded this morning, even during a stressful conference call.

I don’t consider myself terribly creative and since I work so many hours (have had to since my husband passed), I don’t have the time to be (and I think I am too lazy). I used to do a lot with herbs and essential oils (as well as gardening and preserving my own produce) - now it is just easier for me to buy what I want. I am not big on lavender - i have a problem smelling some things and lavender alone happens to be one of them. I do like Aura Cacia’s Pillow Potion that is a mixture of lavender and hops - I can smell that…

I have been making my own lotions and washes for a while now and love them .. I also have never felt I am creative ..I never linked the two ..thank you.

I have been using lavender for many years.  I was introduced to it’s properties by my mother.  I use a Lavender roll on or purse spray daily.  Using lavender in a creative way was when I made little ‘sleep pillows’ for my women friends.  This pillow is placed between the regular pillow and the pillow case thus enabling the scents contained there in to help you relax and fall into slumber. I have also created a Lavender Foot Soak - dried lavender mixed with soothing Epsom salts for my own use as well as gifts. A simple creation, but one that soothes your feet with bliss.  Oh, a very beneficial Lavender product was Lavender Linen Spray which my daughter gifted to me when I had my second Breast Cancer surgery.  It helped to whisk away my anxiety during the healing process. BTW, I grow my own Lavender.  Currently, there are nine bushes in the gardens.

Some weeks I’m too busy to be creative, but then I realize that I don’t feel fulfilled unless I do a creative task. Even it’s 1/2 hour spent coloring, it makes me feel whole.

Lavender Oil has improved my life.  I have been going to acupuncture sessions to help deal with anxiety and depression that have plagued me with shingles for the past 20 years.  After seeing Doctor after Doctor and being prescribed prescription after prescription, I went to an amazing “REAL” and trustworthy acupuncturist who I see 3 times a week.  I spray a little lavender on before my sessions and I think I go to another place of peace and total quiet for 30 minutes 3 times a week and these 1.5 hours and a little lavender have improved the quality of my life and the SHINGLES ARE GONE!!!!!!!

I crochet - daily. My Grandmother taught me when I was a child and it not only helps me stay connected to her (there are many other ways as she raised me) but also…I simply love creating things that others will love and use!

I recently have been feeding my creative side by finally beginning my own at home herbal apothecary in which I plan to make herbal medicine and products. I’ve also started my own Instagram account the_good_witch_doctor to reach out to others about self love and spreading love, light and all things good for the soul. I’ve also started writing again which is something I’ve always done but in little bits here and there. I’ve been extremely happy since starting all of these things.

I also love jojoba oil and often smooth some on after a shower in winter especially.  Maybe some sandalwood or ylang ylang or peppermint for a change.  Lavender is lovely, but there are other beautiful oils depending on the moment.

I have been thinking lately “I need to be more creative” and with this I just realized that I already am! I’ve been making my own blends for a few years now, mix essential oils with coconut oil and Shea butter for lotions etc.! Auracacia.com has tons of recipes on the website! And just like Lynn D. said, I also have been creative with making meals almost every night for years! Thank you for the reminder :-)

Yes it was fun. I love lavender. I did not have almond oil. Instead used organic coconut oil.  It was so soothing to my skin. Also helped to understand there bare always options.

Coconut oil works well too.  Almond is one I have on hand a lot, but really, any fatty oil works well as a support to deliver the relaxation effects of lavender.  Love it!

Creativity for me also includes preparing meals for me as I can choose what I will eat to nourish my body and thus my soul. For others it might be writing, painting, singing, playing an instrument, photography and so much more! Like Charlynn, I make my own body butter and love that I am making something natural to nourish my skin.

I actually had some left from the last time I made this, so I put it in a hot bath.  I really like hot baths, I feel like they help ease some of my physical issues, and I have a fabulous bathtub to use, too!  Sometimes I get so busy or in pain that I just forget to take the time to have a nice hot soak and relax.
