Noteworthy Journey: Task 17
Balance: Make More Time

A balanced life is a life that includes time for family and friends, work and play, energy and rest, health and happiness. But for many of us, balance can seem like an unattainable life concept that only exists in stories. Balance can be achieved by following one premise during busy times – give time to the things that matter and take time from the things that don’t.

As I grow older I feel I have become more aware of the necessity of balance in my life. Life will not always be perfectly balanced- listen to your inner voice to stay balanced.

I am sitting here enjoying my coffee while doing some fun reading (as opposed to textbook reading for school).  I figure it is a good non stressful way to start my day.  I do have a chiropractic adjustment scheduled this afternoon followed by a massage too so I am starting the week off right.

I spend way too much time a day on my phone! I became very aware of this recently and have been making a point to put it down and get it out of my mind’s eye so I can be present. This has also resulted in more time to dedicate to stuff that really matters!

To bring more balance into my day, I’ve decided to cut down on some work time and add some play time back into my day.  I’m the kind of person who can never relax until all of the work is out of the way.  I like scheduling more fun into my day and leaving some of my to-do list for tomorrow.

I think this task will be an ongoing one,  life requires constant rebalancing..the trick is to focus on the important things

I read to my child as much as possible to ensure one on one time. As we become more settled I plan to be more outdoors.

I live in a forested area and can sit on my patio and take in the nature around me. When I lived in the city, I was so happy that the only tree on my block was right in front of my window. I am very humbled to have a small forest surrounding my home now.

Still working on this. I spent a decade dealing with an abuser and finally have space to heal and grow. So I am really finding what works for me and letting go of the forced habits that were created in order for me to endure.

Going to bed earlier gives me time to read and relax, which in turn, helps me to sleep. When I don’t do this on a consistent basis, I am off kilter and out of balance.

I have done something similar before. I do from time to time evaluate my life and see where my time and commitments are going. Sometimes it is easy to make changes to schedules sometimes it is not.

I have been struggling with balance for years.  I take on too many things and can’t say no.

I have learned not to worry so much about doing everything on my to do list if it means im not taking care of my own needs, even if my needs consist of doing absolutely nothing.

I am working to focus more on my family - to help them more and to spend meaningful time together. I also want to include tasks into my routine that I have done on this journey, including time to exercise and time to nourish my mind and body. As far as something that need to go from my life is spending too much time on social media. I need to be more careful with that and limit my social media use.

One thing that I had done recently is to deactivate my Facebook account.  It was such a distraction.  I already have so much more time to do things that need to be done and spend my time with those that need it.

This is tough, I work 2 full time jobs and volunteer for 2 things I love. It’s always difficult to figure out what gives when I’m worn out. I take care of my elderly mother, can’t really NOT do that, I have a relationship with a wonderful man (after decades of not so wonderful men) don’t want to NOT do that, I teach dog training and love it, I rescue raptors and really love that, the job that provides the benefits I have to show up for, the job that finally uses my skills and education I kind of like to do…...........I suppose there is a way to find this elusive thing called balance, but maybe I’m really more balanced than I realize, it just seems really hectic at times..

Visiting family just left today.  I am home from work.  A relaxing cup of coffee and time to just relax and regroup on my day and what still needs to be done due to other priorities this weekend. A plan helps.

I think my plan will be to watch one episode and then 30 minutes of productivity/cleaning and alternate to avoid being sucked into hours of bing watching

Today I’m a bit too mentally tired t ofigure out what I need to accomplish, which could by why the laundry is unfolded, the mail is unopened, and I don’t quite know where to begin.  So for the weekend I will shut off social media and screens so give myself time to rest and recover.  And I will tackle the laundry and the mail on Monday after a weekend of working and resting as much as I can.

Such a timely task - I too have been thinking about this a lot. Netflix is indeed taking too much time, as was FB. My husband and I created new passwords to each others accounts and then hid it, so we are seeing who cracks first!  I have a feeling that neither one of us will really miss it. Instead we have spent the past few evening sitting talking, with the diffuser and some candles - so great!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.  Once small thing I did was to remove the FB icon from the home screen on my tablet and phone.  It has helped minimize my time on social media.  I have to intentionally go open the app instead of responding to the notifications.

I know I need more balance in my life - I just work too much. Unfortunately there is not a lot I can do about it at this point - just going with the flow until I can retire…

Some times I binge on lounging around with my pets, but I’m okay with that :-) But reminding myself about balance is always a good thing.

This is so true, especially when trying to reach a goal. The intense focus can cause shutdown in other areas. I always keep in mind that the work will still be there when I come back.

No shame in being selective and true to yourself. So easy to get carried away by things which are unimportant, and do not enrich our lives.

My task today needs to be quit reading all of the junk email that I get. As there is so much out there to explore (online, that it) everything is just a click away. So just getting out of the email/computer will increase my time for better things.

I took the day and spent it with my family. We tried a new adventure… went swimming in a cenote and zip lined into it! Wow so fun, scary, but quality time! It was so nice to be with my boys!

I balance myself by saying no to the things that I need to. i stopped worrying about what others would think and started looking to myself. Sometimes I sacrifice nights out for peace and quiet and I’m ok with that. I need to recharge and disconnect before I reconnect.

Theres a time for doing and a time for being. They dont equal out 50/50 in every moment. The key to balance is finding out where your focus is and adjusring around it and making sure you are making time for all parts at one time or another!
