Top 10 essential oils for DIY body butters, creams and lotions

This selection of oils runs the gamut of scents from fresh herbal, to floral, to rich, suave base notes. All these oils are mild and gentle so they are appropriate for daily and repeated application in a DIY body butter, cream or lotion.

Essential Oil Character Uses

Patchouli Rich, earthy, herbal. Balancing for all skin types. It’s rich, unusual scent can be modified by blending with rose, jasmine or lavender.
Rose Absolute & Rose Otto Rich, radiant, floral. Soothing, calming, balancing and nourishing. A supremely nurturing oil appropriate for daily application in lotions, creams and butters.
Sandalwood Balsamic, woody, rich. Protective nourishment in all butter, cream and lotion applications.

To make a quick DIY body cream, use a fork to cream together 4 ounces coconut oil with 48 drops Aura Cacia Neroli Precious Essentials oil.

To customize the aroma of your body cream or hand lotion, buy an unscented lotion and mix in 12 drops of lavender, rose otto or Roman chamomile essential oil per ounce.

To make a quick cocoa butter body bar, melt 4 fluid ounces cocoa butter, stir in 48 drops of Aura Cacia Vanilla Precious Essentials oil and refrigerate for 30 to 40 minutes. Then pop it out of the container and smooth onto skin.
