Essential oils are the key ingredients to customize massage oils and muscle blends for specific benefits. Added to a massage oil or muscle blend, essential oils add unique benefits for the giver as well as the receiver of the massage. In this way, a massage both cares for sore or tight muscles as well as elevates the senses.
For a warming massage
To create a warming and invigorating massage experience, use essential oils like eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, black pepper, nutmeg, white camphor and ginger. These oils are volatile, light and absorbent. They feature bracing, herbal and clean aromas that inspire an uplifting atmosphere and warm the muscles.
For a soothing massage
To create a soothing massage experience, use essential oils like lavender, sweet marjoram, chamomile, geranium and Helichrysum. These oils are neutral to softly scented. They create a calming, relaxing atmosphere and soothe the muscles.
To make a massage oil
Once you've selected your essential oils, choose a skin care oil. Apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil and sweet almond oil are good ones to start with. But we encouarge you to explore other oils and find one that's right for you. A 2% dilution of essential oil in a skin care oil is a good starting point for adults. This is equal to 6 drops of essential oil per tablespoon of skin care oil. A full body massage should take around 1 to 3 tablespoons of massage oil depending on area covered and the duration of the massage.
