What are some ways you make exercise fun?

My favorite way to make exercise fun is to find new trails to go hiking, and practice my plant identification along the way.  I try to limit the amount of television that I watch at home, so if I’m working out at the gym and doing one of the cardio machines, I let myself have a treat of watching a moving or television show while I’m exercising.  I’m a huge believer in the concept of movement instead of exercise- I have been exploring new ways of moving my body that are enjoyable, rather than simply exercising for the sake of burning calories.  I have recently been playing around with flexibility and mobility workouts, having fun with trying to do box jumps or other agility moves, and sometimes just taking time to stretch and foam roll.  The diversity of workouts not only keeps my body healthy, but is engaging to my mind as well and keeps exercise from getting boring or feeling like a chore.

I like energetic exercise because I feel that my mind is clearer afterwards. I make it fun by playing my favorite dancing songs. I have a slight scoliosis so if my back hurts that day, I jump on my bicycle and ride and sing aloud. When I come back home, I take a shower and I relax by massaging myrtle essential oil on my pressure points.

Yoga and Pranayama takes away my pain and makes me pain free-can give me energy.Just have to do it daily.

I joined a walking group, it keeps me motivated & I have met some wonderful people!

That’s wonderful! Walking is such a great form of exercise, and bringing a social element to movement makes it even more fun!

I try to stick to workouts that I enjoy, such as strength training. I still try to get some cardio in via other methods, and that often means doing an indoor treadmill run on a rainy day! Like you, I try to keep my tv time to when I’m doing a cardio workout, so then I find that not only do I look forward to the workout, but I want to continue running longer!

Finding workouts you enjoy is definitely important- for a lifestyle to be sustainable we have to love what we’re doing!

I love taking sunset walks, but when I get unmotivated I make it an adventure by bringing my camera.  Snapping a few pictures reminds me to look closer, notice the beauty in my surroundings. It is also a good reminder that there is something new in every day.

I put on some disco music and grab my hula hoop.  30 minutes goes by really fast!

I love riding my bike in the park and packing a sandwich and a book in a backpack.  I’ll bike for some time and then find a spot by the pond to enjoy my supper and read.  It’s good exercise and very refreshing after a demanding day at work.

That sounds both relaxing and rejuvenating! I used to do that when I lived in Vermont- we had wonderful bike trails by the lake.
